The Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace in Mutare is conducting a project in Mutare Rural, Makoni, and Mutasa, entitled "Enhancing the Promotion of Civil and Political Rights in Zimbabwe." The purpose of this policy is to minimise the risks of any exploitation and abuse, including sexual exploitation and abuse, happening within, or as a direct result of CCJP Mutare programming and to put preventative measures in place to safeguard programme participants and partners who may be vulnerable to such risks. The policy also clarifies CCJP  Mutare response to, and management of allegations of exploitation or abuse.

• representatives working under a contractual arrangement with or on behalf of CCJP  Mutare e.g. volunteers, consultants and other third parties

Is the improper use or treatment of something or someone causing harm, damage, offence or distress. Abuse may manifest itself in physical, verbal, sexual and emotional forms and may include harassment. Any or all of these forms may be perpetrated as a result of deliberate intent, negligence or ignorance.

The person reporting a complaint, allegation of abuse must complete the Safeguarding Programme Participants Incident Report Form and submit these to the Designated Safeguarding Officer or Coordinator. As much detail as possible should be included in the form, with regard to the grounds for concern in relation to the individual and any observations including dates, times, names (including witnesses), locations, context and any other information that may be relevant.

Once a report or complaint is submitted an internal investigation will be instigated in accordance with CCJP Mutare Complaints and Investigation Procedures.CCJP Mutare has procedures for carrying out investigations into allegations of exploitation and abuse. CCJP  Mutare recognises that it does not have an automatic right to interview external individuals or parties with regard to a complaint/allegation of abuse. CCJP  Mutare will take whatever action is appropriate, necessary and possible, without risk of further harm to any individual, to ensure the safety of those involved.
