Enhancing the Promotion of Civil and Political Rights in Zimbabwe

Project Objectives

The Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace in Mutare is conducting a project in Mutare Rural, Makoni, and Mutasa, entitled "Enhancing the Promotion of Civil and Political Rights in Zimbabwe." This project is running from July 2022 to March 2027 (57 months). The intended impact of the project is to have effective action to claim and defend human rights as set out in the 2013 Constitution.

The project Outcomes:

Outcomes

1. Duty-bearers are challenged by citizens and organised citizen groups to respect and protect human rights.

2. Reduced barriers to gender equality.

3. Equipped civil society organisations (CSOs) sustain their role of supporting citizens and communities to exercise their rights.

The Intended Outputs

1. Increased access to quality legal, medical, and psycho-social support services to victims of human rights (HR) abuse and human rights defenders (HRDs) in distress.

2. Improved monitoring, documentation, information dissemination and advocacy on human rights violations in communities.

3. Citizens’ capacity and opportunity to exercise their and monitor and advocate for change are increased.

4. Women's confidence, capacity and opportunity to advocate for the rights of women and girls and participate in public policy and decision-making, and politics, are strengthened.

5. CSO partners have improved systems, management and programming, enabling them to sustain their human rights promotion.

Zimbabwe Women Lawyers Association (Manicaland and Masvingo) and Institute for Young Women’s Development (IYWD)

Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP), (9) Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum (ZHRF), (10) Zimbabwe Human Rights Association (ZimRights), (11) Zimbabwe Association of Doctors for Human Rights (ZADHR), and (12) Counselling Service Unit (CSU).
